1. INSTALLATION GUIDE: SOLIDWORKS SNL INSTALLATION

Note: the SNL installation requires that you install the SNL Server before installing the SNL Client

1. Server Installation

1) After obtaining the SolidWorks installation file via the Customer Portal -> Downloads and Updates, Run the setup file downloaded. (Can choose Year release and Service Pack).
2) When the installation manager pops up, you will start on the Welcome page:

Make sure you tick “Server Products”, tick “Install SolidNetWork License Manager 2019..” and then click Next. (Please note, the image says Update SolidNetWork License Manager…” because an SNL instance is already installed, but otherwise, it’s the same interface and in the same location)

3) You will then be directed to the page to enter your Serial numbers. Enter all SNL Serial Numbers.

4) You will then be directed to the Summary page. Tick “Agree to Terms” and start the download and installation.

5) Once the installation is complete, go to Start and search for: SolidNetWork License Manager Server. It is also located under the “SOLIDWORKS 201x Tools” Folder. (nb: x is a placeholder)

6) Once you click it, the prompt to activate the license will pop up:

Enter the server name and click on next.
As a note: It is ideal for the Static IP or DNS Server name/details to serve as the computer name

Highlight all the serial numbers and click next.

1) The License Manager will then appear and Start the server.

NB: To tell if you are in the SolidNetWork License Manager Server, double check that the “Server Administration” tab is present. If it is not, you are in the SolidNetWork License Manager Client.

2. Client Installation

If your computer/s already have standalone installation/s of SolidWorks, you will have to modify the existing installation/s. If your computer/s don’t have an existing standalone installation, skip to step 3.
1) Go to Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> Right click and Change the existing SolidWorks installation

2) Tick option “Modify the individual installation (on this computer)” and click Next. (Skip to step 4).

3) If your computer/s don’t have an existing standalone installation, copy the same installation file set obtained from SolidWorks Customer Portal and when the Installation Manager pops up, tick “Individual (on this computer)” and Click Next.

4) Enter the SNL Serial number/s for all the products you are entitled to. i.e. enter the SNL serial number under the 3D design category, enter any Visualization, Simulation, etc licenses that you have for your SNL serial number entitlement.

Click Next.

5) You will then be directed to the Product Selection page. Add any installation changes as needed and then click Next.

6) You will be directed to the Summary page. Add/edit and products for installation as needed and then click on Download and Modify.

7) A pop-up box will appear to point the client to the server:

1) After obtaining the SolidWorks installation file via the Customer Portal -> Downloads and Updates, Run the setup file downloaded. (Can choose Year release and Service Pack).
2) When the installation manager pops up, you will start on the Welcome page:

Enter the server details (as you have specified in Step 6 of Section 1. You can also double check these details by accessing the “Server List” tab in the SolidNetWork License Manager Server).

8) Continue the installation as if it is a standalone installation.
NB: Activation is not required for the client installation; this is taken care of on the server side.

2. Maintaining the SNL Server

– SolidWorks releases 5-6 service packs per annual release. An important detail to note is that the server must be on the latest release compared to the client, i.e. if the SolidWorks server is 2019 Service Pack 3, the latest the client installation can be is SolidWorks 2019 Service Pack 3 and earlier. The client can run any earlier versions of SolidWorks as long as it does not supersede the SNL Server.

– The SNL server must be updated before the client installation can be updated to the latest SolidWorks service pack. Updating the client before the server will cause the SolidWorks client to cease working.

Updating the SNL server follows the same steps as outlined in Section 1.

– If any of the client computers are running parallel installations, e.g. the computer has SolidWorks 2019, 2018 and 2017, and the SNL server is installed, update or modify the latest installation instance of SolidWorks.

– Depending on firewall security, inbound and outbound exceptions may need to be done for ports 25734-25735.
